The Eufy E340 pairs 2K video, parcel detection and local storage without a monthly fee, though its smart alerts depend on power and internet.

The Eufy Security Video Doorbell E340 stands out for a practical reason: Laura Crombie has used it for years without paying a monthly fee to access recordings. Its dual cameras, parcel detection and local storage make it a capable home security option, while the upfront price may be higher than some rivals.
Crombie, content director at Homebuilding & Renovating, tested the video doorbell at her home. Her experience points to a useful trade-off for buyers: a larger initial outlay can avoid ongoing charges for recorded footage. The E340 is available in battery-powered form on Amazon.

Installation and everyday use
The E340 comes in battery and hardwired versions. Crombie chose the battery model and says installation was straightforward: she followed the instructions and mounted it beside her front door. The box includes a rechargeable battery pack, USB-C cable, mounting bracket, 15-degree adapter, screw positioning card, extension cables, detaching pin, warming sticker and quick start guide.
Footage and live viewing run through the Eufy app, which Crombie found simple to download and free to use. More than one person can access the system; she and her husband both use it. Her setup also includes two mains-powered floodlight cameras and an Anker Eufy HomeBase, which brings devices together and stores video.

Want to connect the doorbell with other Eufy security cameras? Laura recommends using the HomeBase to store all the footage simultaneously in one place.
Video, detection and battery performance
At 2K resolution, the E340 sits between premium 4K doorbells and lower-cost HD models. Crombie describes the picture quality across her Eufy devices as “excellent.” Its front camera focuses on people, while a second, downward-facing camera captures the area around the doorstep. That second view helps show whether a parcel has been left outside.
Colour night vision reaches up to five feet. The doorbell also distinguishes people from animals, which can cut down on alerts from passing pets. Crombie says it ignores a fox that visits at night and a neighbour’s cat, while its recognition of regular visitors has remained accurate as her children have grown. She has linked it to Alexa for spoken alerts when someone is detected.
There are limits. A spider on the lens once confused the system, and Crombie says the doorbell becomes unreliable if both power and internet are lost. Renovation work in her front garden has triggered frequent activations, but she reports no other reliability problems.
Two motion-sensor lights, positioned at the top and bottom of the device, add illumination around the entrance. Two-way audio lets Crombie speak with visitors remotely, and six saved Quick Replies offer short responses when she can’t hold a conversation. She charges the battery four or five times a year, which she describes as “a really long time” between charges.

Is the Eufy E340 worth the price?
The E340 may cost more upfront than alternatives such as Ring (also on Amazon). But buyers who want access to saved footage should factor subscription costs into the comparison. The E340 includes 8GB of local storage, and Crombie uses a HomeBase to store footage from multiple Eufy devices together.
“Yes, absolutely,” Crombie says of whether she’d recommend it. She found monthly fees on previous doorbells frustrating, and says the E340 has become one of her household’s best purchases for its cost per use. For her, the option to build a connected home security system adds to the appeal.

For buyers comparing doorbells, the E340’s strongest case is simple: useful detection and local recording without a recurring fee, provided the home has power and internet.
